Where is My America?
In this free verse poem I question key “American Values” and how they have disappeared / changed so much in a short amount of time. We are so focused on technology, money, and beauty that we forget to look around at the beautiful world we live in. I talked about the issues that I feel the most passionate about in today’s society and how they can impact lives. Also at the end of the poem, we see the Grandma’s perspective of the world around her. She is saddened by the way things have turned. From this I hope that one asks, What does it mean to be an American? and, Is it good that some of the values have changed or do we need to go back our roots?
I Found Myself Dancing Today
This free verse poem was inspired by the recent COVID Pandemic. In this poem the reader is presented with a girl filled with uncertainty about what is happening around her. She is a very free spirited happy person but when the virus comes she feels like her freedom is also left behind. But, the girl doesn’t loose faith and dances in her house to keep going. She dances for her family and for herself. And through her dancing, she find hope in God and that brings her immense comfort.
